Why Sirius/Remus?

Why do I love Sirius and Remus together?

Well, they are the two Marauders that seem like they'd least likely to even be friends, let alone practically brothers! We know that Remus tends to be seen as the quiet type; he had to study to pass his classes, and his lycanthropy made him shy. Remus is pretty good natured and easy going in canon, but he also seems the type to keep the important stuff close to his heart, and doesn't get too close to people. Sirius, on the other hand, was one of the most popular students at Hogwarts. He was also known for getting himself into trouble with James Potter, and was a big mischief maker when he was a student. How did Sirius and Remus become such best friends?

I don't think Remus was exactly a goody goody. He knows quite a few mischevious spells (as shown in Prisoner of Azkaban), and he helped write the Marauder's Map. He's obviously not a recluse or overly shy either. He seems to be good friends with many of the other members of the Order. I think he might have been rather shy and probably kept to himself at first when he arrived at Hogwarts. He was probably worried about people discovering his secret. I think that Sirius pretty much blew all that out of the water (along with James and Peter). I can also see Remus kind of underestimating his friends, until they reveal to him that they became Animagi for him (and Sirius is a dog! A dog and a werewolf!). I think when the three of them do that for Remus, he's pretty much ok with them doing whatever they want. So when Sirius tells Snape his secret, I can see Remus not getting up in arms over it.

We also know that post!Hogwarts, things between Remus and Sirius are not so good anymore. Sometime before James and Lily's death, both Sirius and Remus believe the other to be a spy. How could two close friends get to the point where they distrust each other that much? It's kind of heartbreaking to think about it, since we know how things turn out. Sirius is thrown in Azkaban, and Remus is left alone.

Throughout Prisoner of Azkaban, Remus seems to still be upset with himself over his friendship with Sirius. He still thinks Sirius is the one who betrayed James and Lily. Remus also knew Sirius was an Animagus, but lied to Dumbledore (someone he trusted more than anyone else) about his knowledge of Sirius. One of my favorite moments in the series is when Sirius and Remus are reuinted, when Remus figures out that Sirius is innocent. Not only does this give us the opportunity to see a new side to Remus, we also get to see the two of them bond again.

I find their friendship/relationship to be one of the most fascinating in the entire series. The two seem like they wouldn't be friends at all; Sirius comes from a very rich, pure blood family, who would probably hate Remus just because he's a werewolf. Remus is very poor, but also stays very closed off, and seems very unlikely to become friends with someone who is the most popular student at Hogwarts. But we know that they do become very close friends, and it effects so many lives in the series. I think they're a lot of fun to read. Their history gives us a lot of angst, but it also gives us a lot of fun. Though I do ship them, I also adore their friendship. I think they do a lot for each other in the name of friendship, and regardless of how you view them, you have to love that:D
